Assessment Studies
Over the years we have developed a niche for doing assessment studies primarily in rural India. Since inception we through our wide-scale baseline surveys, an approximate 70,000 km was covered, across half of India reaching to thousands of people.
Conducting Raw Material Studies
Shristi has carried out a number of studies for the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, since 2002 which have exhaustively covered 11 states of West Bengal, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Delhi and Rajasthan. The studies involved in-depth analysis of artisans working with Clay, Terracotta and Ceramics, Metal, Stone and Natural Fibres.
The study was aimed at assessing factors such as availability of different raw materials, identify different raw material management procedures and their merits and demerits, raw material usage and different price patterns, existing price mechanisms, standards/codes for quality management and make inventory of raw materials as well as evaluate quality standards practiced.
Thus a methodology was devised to minimize constraints in management procedures, means were suggested to improve quality standards practiced, strategies were worked out to enable craftsmen to procure adequate quality raw materials on a regular time basis. Methods were also suggested to improve institutional linkages for logistics and procurement assistance to the craftsmen.
Conducting Technology Assessment Studies
In the Technology assessment studies, the objectives were to meet clay, terracotta and ceramics, metal craft and stone craftsmen, NGOs in various villages and clusters, observe their process of manufacturing and identify the various constraints in terms of adaptability, processing of raw materials, tools and tackles and productivity.
